Hot Springs High School qualified two athletes Saturday, March 31, at the Mike Castillo Invitational in Silver City, to the State Track & Field Meet, scoring 19.5 points for an eighth place finish in the boys’ division, and 42 points for a sixth place finish in the girls’ division.
Silver City won the boys’ division by scoring 153 points, followed by Deming with 62, Cliff with 50, Morenci, Ariz., with 59, Lordsburg with 35, Cobre with 25, Hatch with 23, Hot Springs with 19.5, Animas with 8.5 and Reserve scored 4 points.
In the girls’ division, Silver scored 122.5 points for first, followed by Deming with 63.5, Lordsburg with 53, Morenci, Ariz., with 50, Cobre with 43.5, Hot Springs with 42, Cliff with 30, Reserve with 20.5, Hatch with 11, and Animas scored 8 points.
Sarai Clendinen won both the 3200- and 1600-meter runs Saturday, and then grabbed a second place in the 800 meters. Her time in the 3200 was 13:40.95, and in the 1600, she ran 6:16.14.
Marissa Aguirre placed second in the pole vault, while teammate Tessa Jones had a third place finish in the discus and placed fourth both in the shot put and the high jump events. Tessa cleared the bar at 4’10” to qualify to the State Track & Field Meet.
Nikki Marr place fourth in both the triple jump and the javelin.
Owen Harrison won the high jump event in the boys’ division, clearing the bar at 5’8” and he placed second in the 100-meter dash. His time of 11.02 seconds in the 100 meters qualifies him to the State Track & Field Meet. Owen also finished third in both the 200 meters and the long jump.
The 4×100 team of Austin Munson, Brandon Rael, Tyler Slaven and Owen Harrison finished in fifth place.
