Many people like to think that the kick-off weekend for visitors to Elephant Butte Lake State Park is Memorial Day weekend. Perhaps, that is the weekend when the large number of visitors begin their journey out to the lake, but it is by far not the kick-off weekend.
Cloudy and a bit chilly weather did not keep hundreds of people from Albuquerque, El Paso, Las Cruces and throughout Sierra County from flocking to the lake to enjoy the Easter weekend.
Sail boating, fishing, boating and jet-skiing and yes, even a bit of swimming by some of the braver of heart, spearheaded what is certain to be a terrific summer of activity at EBLSP.
With the Easter egg hunt, a sailing competition and the opening of the Burger Barge, there were plenty of reason to head to the lake Easter weekend.
Staff and long time visitors to the lake expect more then larger number of visitors to EBLSP this year. Not just because of the high gas prices keeping people closer to home, but also because of the safe, family-oriented variety of fun offered by EBLSP.
