State Police Investigate Body Found in Car Monday

By Carlos Padilla

Officials with the Sierra County Sheriff’s Department responded to the far northwest corner of Sierra County Monday afternoon, April 9, after a caller reported finding a body inside of a vehicle.

Sheriff’s officials were told by Dispatch that a driver called in to state that a vehicle had been parked near State Highway 59’s Milepost 4 for days. When the driver went to investigate, they reportedly discovered a body inside of the vehicle.

New Mexico State Police Public Information Officer Lt. Robert McDonald and Sierra County Sheriff’s Department Information Specialist Brad Spencer told The Herald late Monday afternoon that they could not confirm any information on the incident.

After Sheriff’s officials began to make their way to the scene, Dispatch notified them that the vehicle was actually located about one mile into Catron County.

New Mexico State Police officials were then dispatched to the scene.

A representative with the state’s Office of the Medical Examiner responded to the scene.

  1. Our online readers were able to read this story here first. That’s right – somehow this article was left out of the print version of The Herald. For more information, see next week’s edition of The Herald, online and in print.
