DRIVER INJURED – Officials responded to a single-vehicle crash at approximately 10 p.m., Saturday, April 21, along Rock Canyon Road, in the “S” curves just north of Elephant Butte’s city limits. Witnesses stated that the driver was traveling northbound and failed to navigate a right turn, causing his black SUV to leave the roadway and overturn. The young man suffered a broken jaw, however was able to get out of the vehicle on his own before the arrival of officials with Elephant Butte Fire & Rescue, Sierra Vista Hospital EMS and Williamsburg Extrication. New Mexico State Parks and New Mexico State Police also responded to the scene. State Police Patrolman Antonio Palomares is investigating the crash, however, could not be reached for information regarding the incident. It is unclear if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
