Jens Deichmann has been selected as the new project manager for THEMAC Resources, the parent company of New Mexico Copper Corporation, which is working to open the Copper Flat Mine in southwestern Sierra County.
Deichmann visited The Herald last week to introduce himself and to provide some information on what is on the horizon regarding many projects to get the mine into operation.
An Environmental Impact Study process is underway with the federal Bureau of Land Management and a third-party contractor, which are charged with studying water and environmental conditions, air quality and obtaining groundwater permits. Aquifer tests will need to be conducted as well.
Deichmann stated that hydro-geologists will be testing groundwater in the vicinity of the mine to determine what – if any – aquifers are “connected.”
