Tigers Participate in Dave Mattieu Invitational Meet

Sarai Clendenin had the only first place finish for the Tigers of Hot Springs High School at the Dave Mattieu Invitational Track & Field Meet in Socorro, on Saturday, April 28, winning the pole vault event at 9’6”. She also finished third in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:54.09.

Marissa Aguirre placed third in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 7’ even.

Other Tiger girls placing in the meet included a fourth place finish in the discus by Tessa Jones with a toss of 84’7” and she had a fifth place finish in the shot put, tossing the ball 28’4.5”. Kaitlyn Pierson placed sixth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4’8” and Nikki Marr placed seventh in the javelin with a throw of 85’.

In the boys’ division, Owen Harrison scored points in three events, placing fourth in the long jump with a leap of 19’8.5”, fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5’6” and he placed sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.49.

Tait Apodaca scored the only other points for the Tiger boys, placing fifth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9’.

Silver City won the boys’ division, scoring 161.5 points, followed by St. Michaels in second with 117 points, Socorro had 104.5 points, Ruidoso had 70, West Las Vegas had 57, Robertson had 49, Zuni had 48, Grants had 47.5, Pojoaque had 47, Hot Springs had 15.5, Santa Fe Indian had 14, Raton had 4, and Hatch Valley had 2.

The girls’ division was won by Socorro with 110.5 points, Robertson was second with 105 points, St. Michaels and Ruidoso tied for third with 78 points each, Silver had 75, Pojoaque had 63, Wingate had 43, Grants and Hot Springs tied for ninth with 36, West Las Vegas had 26.5, Santa Fe Indian had 14, and Zuni had 9.
