Third-year Hot Springs varsity softball head coach Rick Artman said during last week’s end-of-season banquet that the team enjoyed its best player turnout in his five-year association with the program.
The Lady Tigers started out the season with 30 players and finished with 22, Artman told a group of players, parents and guests who assembled at La Cocina Restaurant on Wednesday, May 16.
The Tigers finished the season with a 3-22 record (four wins including a forfeit) and went winless in a tough District 3-3A led by Silver, which beat Portales 4-3 in the 3A state tournament title game.
“This has been a wonderful year,” said Artman, who served as an assistant coach his first two years with the program. “I am so pleased with the number of girls we had this year.”
