Kingston writer/photographer Catherine Wanek received a 2012 Zia Book Award from the New Mexico Press Women, at a recent luncheon in Santa Fe.
Wanek’s book, “The Hybrid House – Designing With Sun, Wind, Water, & Earth” was among five books that received top honors for non-fiction. The other winners are: “Always Messin’ With Them Boys” by Jessica Helen Lopez (nonfiction poetry), “Weekends With O’Keeffe” by C.S. Merrill (history/biography), “Through a Narrow Window” by Linney Wix (coffee table), and “Code Talker” by Chester Nez with Judith Schiess Avila (memoir).
The Zia Award winner for best how-to/reference book, “The Hybrid House” showcases 12 modern energy-efficient homes with more than 200 color photographs. The book demonstrates ways to create a healthy, comfortable house with natural building materials, and eco-friendly new technologies, such as super-efficient windows, radiant heat, and solar systems. Wanek is both author and photographer.
