Elephant Butte Lake State Park’s Superintendent Jesus Jimenez said 45,861 visitors came through from Monday, Aug. 27-to-Sunday, Sept. 2.
Jimenez did not have the visitor numbers from last year, but says they are higher this year because revenue is up from about $32,000 last year to about $36,000 this year for the same time period.
Jimenez said no accidents occurred. He said there were a few arrests for outstanding warrants, littering and fraud. He said locals are the worst perpetrators for fraud. “They take year-round visitor’s passes and change the date. Say it expired June 2012, they’ll change it to 2013.”
