Las Palomas Fire Department personnel recently learned that they have been awarded a grant from the New Mexico State Fire Marshal’s Office to the tune of $100,000.
With those funds, the Las Palomas Fire Department membership aims to add up to four additional bays in order to house the department’s fleet of fire apparatus. The addition would add approximately 3,750 square feet to the fire station located along Palomas Creek Road.
The fire department is required to match the grant award with 20 percent of their own funds.
Danette Brownlee and Mickey Sallee wrote the grant, and told The Herald last wek that they started the process a couple of months ago. Las Palomas Fire Department beat out all other fire departments throughout the state of New Mexico that were vying for this particular grant.
