Sen. Tom Udall (D-NM) visited Truth or Consequences on Thursday, Aug. 28, attending a lunchtime reception at Bella Luca Café Italiano in support of his 2014 reelection bid.
Udall, who is being challenge by Republican Allen Weh in November’s general election, also visited with staff and patients at Ben Archer Health Center/VA Health Clinic on North Date Street.
Then the senator toured the Dianne Hamilton Military Museum on South Broadway.
Some of Udall’s top political supporters locally, Sid Bryan, Ann Filosa and Gary Whitehead, served as host sponsors at the Bella Luca luncheon in downtown Truth or Consequences.
At Ben Archer Health Center at 1960 N. Date St., which also oversees the Veterans Administration’s rural VA Health Clinic, Udall toured the entire facility, including the recently renovated and expanded lobby and medical and dental wings.
As Udall’s communications director, Jennifer Talhelm, noted, Udall is one of Washington, D.C.’s most ardent advocates on behalf of veterans health care services, especially when it comes to accessing those services in rural New Mexico.
In addition to serving on the Senate Appropriations Committee, Udall sits on the Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies.
In addition to visiting the Military Museum, Udall toured the adjoining Veterans Memorial Wall and visited with local veterans, according to Talhelm.
“He went on a guided tour and had an opportunity to meet with veterans,” she said. “It was a really nice experience. He enjoyed it.”
