The City of Truth or Consequences Swimming Pool is eager to release new winter hours, beginning Saturday, Sept. 13, and effective until May 2015, which cater to the public’s desired timeframes for pool usage. Now open seven days a week, the pool hopes to secure more daily users and remain a recreation destination.
The new inflatable pool cover will allow the community to use the pool all year around, but it comes at a somewhat hefty price. The Friends of the Pool, along with a Pool Advisory Task Force and current staff, wish to lessen the strain of this “quality of life” recreational facility on the City of Truth or Consequences by increasing users, fundraising and promotions. If you haven’t been by to see it, now is the time.
The new schedule offers open swim hours to the public during times that people are able to use it. With weekday open swims after work and school, 5-8 p.m., and weekends 1-4 p.m., the pool will be accessible when the public demands it. Two different hour-long sessions at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Mondays-Fridays, should allow many more members of the community an opportunity to take advantage of low-impact water aerobics classes. Lap swims are available 10 a.m.-12 p.m., five days a week (Fridays-Mondays, and Wednesdays), with bonus 6 a.m. swims Tuesdays and Thursdays for the earlybirds and working class. Therapeutic users can still come three days a week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) 12-1 p.m., with bonus Tuesday and Thursday hours, 10-11 a.m.
Private programs, pool rentals and instructional classes are also available throughout the winter. The Bountiful Babies free swimming lessons take place each Saturday, 12-1 p.m., in September.
Sierra County Swim Club will begin in October, and various other programs will also be available (TBA).
One-on-one private swim lessons are available through the Swim Team for $10 per hour and through the lifeguards for $15 per hour. Call (575) 894-6151 to sign up. If you are not sure you want to commit to the highly expensive $2 for youth or $3 for adult and senior prices, you can experience the J.A. Hodges Municipal Swimming Pool for free every second and fourth Saturday of each month.
If you are interested in volunteering at the pool, taking lifeguard courses, becoming a member of the Friends of the Pool, or anything aquatic related, please don’t hesitate to call and receive information. The City of Truth or Consequences Municipal Swimming Pool is here to serve you, and will now be accessible all year long. Please take advantage of this recreation destination, relax, cool off, and help us keep our pool afloat.
