The Sept. 11 meeting of the New Mexico Spaceport Authority, originally scheduled to take place in Elephant Butte, has been canceled.
The meeting was to be held at the Municipal Building in Elephant Butte, but City Manager Alan Briley on Monday, Sept. 8, confirmed the meeting cancellation.
The NMSA has rescheduled the meeting for 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, also at the Municipal Building, 103 Water Ave., according to city officials.
The NMSA announced the meeting cancellation on the Spaceport America website, but did not immediately announce the new meeting date or the reasons for the cancellation.
Local government officials and residents alike have been anxious to meet with the Spaceport Authority membership on several issues related to the $250-milliion taxpayer financed spaceport in eastern Sierra County.
One of those issues is the proposed Spaceport Visitors Center to be located at Hot Springs Retail Center near Walmart and overlooking the I-25 north exchange.
