Hot Springs High School’s Tiger offense went into high gear Saturday, Sept. 6, in Questa, scoring in every quarter to take a 44-20 victory over the host team, the Wildcats. It was the Tigers’ second win in a row and the first time since the 2007 season that the Tigers have won their first two opening encounters. The 2007 team went into the playoffs only to be beaten by Robertson in Las Vegas.

And they did it the hard way; on the road. The Tigers boarded their bus early Saturday morning and made the little over 300-mile trip for an anticipated kickoff at 2 p.m.

Quarterback Darin Welty had an impressive evening, throwing for approximately 120 yards. The Tiger running attack was fairly balanced with Cody Moore rushing for 82 yards, Sajid Porras had 75, Nick Moreno had 42, and Quinton Montoya rushed for 40.

In the passing department, Porras had 35 yards in receptions, Juan Ortiz had 30, James Aguirre netted 25 while Montoya had 20. In all, the Tigers had a total of 375 yards on the ground, and 120 yards in the air for a total of 495 yards.
