The community is encouraged and invited to attend the Candidates Forum scheduled to be held Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Albert Lyon Events Center, located on the Sierra County Fairgrounds on South Broadway in Truth or Consequences. The event is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Local voters will have the opportunity to hear candidates seeking seats in two races for the Sierra County Commission, both candidates running for the office of Sierra County Sheriff, as well as the offices of Seventh Judicial District Judge, New Mexico Public Regulation Commission, Sierra County Magistrate Judge, and Probate Judge – 14 candidates in all.
Candidates will be asked a number of questions submitted by the public over the last several weeks to The Herald via e-mail or in person to the newspaper’s office as well as at the Saturday, Sept. 13 Meet the Candidates event held in downtown Truth or Consequences.
The Candidates Forum aims to provide information to the local electorate regarding the qualifications and vision possessed by each candidate seeking to win the General Election in their respective races in November. Information provided by the candidates Thursday evening may just win over some undecided voters.
Emcees for the forum are Cathy Vickers and Sid Bryan. Ms. Vickers is the chair of the Sierra County Republican Party. Mr. Bryan is the chair of the Democratic Party of Sierra County.
The Candidates Forum is a collaborative effort between the local Democratic and Republican parties and The Herald of Truth or Consequences. Refreshments and beverages will be provided at the forum.
