Public Transportation in Sierra County

Sierra Health Council will host ‘Let’s Get the Wheels Rolling’ to provide important information and updates on the South Central Regional Transit District (SCRTD) public transportation system. ‘Let’s Get the Wheels Rolling’ will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at Lee Belle Johnson Center, 301 S. Foch St., in downtown Truth or Consequences.

Featured speakers from SCRTD will be Project Manager Jack Valencia and Citizen Advisory Advocate and board member Sherry Thomas, who will present an overview on the progress of the SCRTD, certified by the New Mexico Department of Transportation since 2006. Also, crucial information for voters concerning a referendum that will appear on the November ballot will be discussed.

In addition, local representatives from various organizations will speak briefly about transportation issues facing our community. Interesting displays informing on various local offerings involving active transportation modes, walking and bicycling, will be available. Free bike helmets (contributed by the New Mexico Department of Health-Health Promotion Team) will be issued to bicycle riders.

Everyone is encouraged to attend this informative ‘free’ event. Food will be provided.

Registration is not required.
