World’s First Commercial Spaceline Partners with Intimate Local Hotel
To Create Immersive NM Experiences for Future Astronauts & Guests
Virgin Galactic, the privately-funded space company owned by Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group and Abu Dhabi’s aabar Investments PJS, announced on Monday, Oct. 6 that it has partnered with Ted Turner’s Sierra Grande Lodge & Spa as it continues to expand its New Mexico accommodation options for Future Astronauts and their families. The Sierra County partnership complements the hospitality partnership in Doña Ana County with Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces.
“We’re excited to partner with Ted Turner and his Sierra Grande Lodge and Spa for lodging and local eco-tourism,” said Virgin Galactic CEO George Whitesides. “Step by step, we are putting together an incredible spectrum of New Mexico experiences for our customers and their families.”
The Sierra Grande Lodge & Spa was purchased by Ted Turner in 2013, and is well known for its combination of luxurious accommodations, rustic charm, and relaxing spa and natural hot springs. The Lodge is also a launching point for visitors to New Mexico to discover the area’s exciting recreational, eco-tourism and artistic opportunities including ancient hot springs, hunting and fishing, hiking, boating, bird watching, historic ghost towns, fine art galleries and world class golf.
The property will offer Galactic customers and families eco-safaris on Turner’s two ranches surrounding Truth or Consequences, the Ladder and Armendaris, which combined comprise more than 513,000 acres of land, and are home to a variety of wildlife and aquatic species, as well as stunning mountains and desert-scapes.
“I immediately fell in love with the timelessness and serenity of Sierra Grande Lodge and Spa when I first visited the hotel with my family during the summer of 2012,” said owner Ted Turner. “Virgin Galactic’s Future Astronauts will surely fall in love with its rich history and rustic charm the way I did when they experience the fantastic taste of New Mexican culture and hospitality before they take their amazing trip to space.”
