Lights on After School Rally Oct. 23

On Oct. 23, after school programs throughout Sierra County will host various activities and open houses as part of Lights on After School, a nationwide rally for afterschool programs that is expected to include some 7,500 events this year. In all, one million Americans are expected to join in events across the country to draw attention to the need for more afterschool programs. At the event, parents and supporters will encourage families to engage in afterschool programs.

Sites hosting Lights on events include AppleTree, the Boys & Girls Club, Arrey Elementary and TCES.

All community members are invited to attend. For further information about the event, contact Charis at (575) 894-5646, charis@bgc-sc.org. For more information about Lights on After School or about afterschool programs in general, visit www.afterschoolalliance.org.

After school programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning. According to data from the Afterschool Alliance, 15.1 million children are without adult supervision in the afternoon hours.
