Third Suspect Still on the Loose
By Carlos Padilla
Two adult males from the community of Derry are facing numerous felony charges following an incident that took place Tuesday night, Oct. 14, in Truth or Consequences and led to the community of Arrey – more than 15 miles south. A third man is still on the run.
Justin Flores, 23, and 24-year-old Hugo Pahua have each been charged with second-degree aggravated burglary, third-degree conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary, and third-degree tampering with evidence. Flores is facing an additional charge of misdemeanor resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.
Just after 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 14, officials with the Truth or Consequences Police Department (TCPD) responded to a residence in the 400-block of West Riverside Drive in Truth or Consequences, due to a report of shots fired and a pregnant female who may have been shot.
Moments later, TCPD Sgt. Erica Baker clarified that the female victim had not been shot, but had sustained injuries from a physical attack from multiple adult males. Information was relayed to law enforcement officials throughout Sierra County and into Doña Ana County of the suspect vehicle, described as a small silver sedan. The vehicle’s trunk reportedly was not able to be closed.
The female victim – who is nine months pregnant – told authorities that, upon hearing a noise outside of her residence, she noticed the dome light on in her SUV. The woman stated that she saw two men wearing shiny masks, and yelled out to them, asking what they were doing.
One of the men chambered a round in a black handgun and walked towards the pregnant woman, who began to back away from the approaching masked gunman. She states that he rushed toward her and knocked her to the ground.
