The pretrial hearings scheduled for Frank and Deann Chavez were set to take place Friday, Oct. 17, in Seventh Judicial District Court in Truth or Consequences.
Both hearings, however, have been delayed, and will now be held on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at 10:30 a.m.
Frank Chavez, who has been incarcerated at the Socorro County Detention Facility since shortly after his arrest, is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing on Friday, Oct. 31, at 10:30 a.m., at the local district courthouse.
Representing Frank and Deann Chavez is well-known criminal defense attorney Gary Mitchell of Ruidoso. Mitchell has a reputation for handling high-profile criminal cases, including murder cases.
Frank Chavez is facing an open count of first-degree murder as well as tampering with evidence associated with the highest crime, a first- or second-degree felony.
Frank and Deann Chavez were both arrested and charged with the Saturday, July 21 murder of Jeff Loren Martin.
The open count of first-degree murder charge filed against Deann Chavez was subsequently dropped. Ms. Chavez still, however, faces a count of tampering with evidence.
