It wasn’t a stampede, but the Colts of Silver High School did gallop past the Tigers of HSHS in the season finale, 42-0.

Finishing with a 5 win, 5 loss season record, the Tigers did end up as the 12th team in the state Class 4A listings, giving them a spot in the first round of the playoffs. They will face the Cobre Indians at Cobre Friday night, Nov. 14. Kickoff time is slated for 7 p.m.

SILVER IN CONTROL

Silver was in control of the game from the opening kickoff, as they received the ball and marched to the Tiger goal line in eight plays for six points. The Colts put points on the scoreboard in every quarter, scoring twice in the second and third periods for their decisive victory.

Offensively, the Tigers just couldn’t get untracked against the Colts. Tiger Quarterback Darin Welty didn’t have enough time to set up and throw the ball in most instances, even though he did manage to complete four of six attempts for 48 yards. He threw one interception.

Silver’s Colts had the Tiger offense in check most of the night, shutting down the Tigers option offense and holding Welty to a minus-12 yards rushing.

Quinton Montoya led the Tiger offense with 71 yards rushing in 10 plays, and ended the evening with 120 total utility yards. Nick Moreno had 90 utility yards, however, he was held to 52 yards rushing in 15 carries.
