Hillsboro’s annual holiday celebration, Christmas in the Foothills 2014, takes place on Saturday, Dec. 6, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Hillsboro Community Center.
Highlights of the festival include a wide array of vendors selling specialty arts, handcrafted gifts and food items, the annual raffle of an original work of art, and the ever-popular $49.99 Art Show & Sale.
The $49.99 Art Show & Sale began many years ago as a way for Hillsboro’s many artists, authors, and craftspeople to give back to the community at Christmastime. Each item in the Art Show will be sold for $49.99 to a winning ticket holder, and all items are guaranteed to be worth more than that – often several times more! Winners each go home with a unique and valuable addition to their home, whether painting, photograph, pottery, furniture, jewelry item, or other treasure.
$1 raffle tickets can be purchased for a chance to win an original framed watercolor painting of hummingbirds especially created for the event by Hillsboro artist Inga McCord. The winning ticket for McCord’s painting will be drawn at the Community Center at 3:45 p.m. Limited edition prints of her artwork are also for sale.
In addition to Christmas in the Foothills events at the Hillsboro Community Center, Hillsboro’s Main Street merchants, including restaurants, antique shops, wine tasting room, and museums, will all be open.
Musicians and singers along Main Street will provide seasonal and regional accompaniment to the festivities. In Kingston, the Historic Percha Bank Museum & Gallery will be open 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and refreshments will be served.
Hillsboro is located on State Highway 152, approximately 17 miles west of Interstate 25 at Exit 63. Signs and holiday greeters in Santa hats will hand out maps and direct visitors to Christmas in the Foothills activities at the Hillsboro Community Center.
