The 29th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony took place Tuesday, Nov. 11, in front of the New Mexico State Veterans Home, honoring veterans of all branches of the U.S. military.
The day started out with an open house, followed by the ceremony proper, emceed by NMSVH Administrator Lori Montgomery.
Following the posting of colors by the Hot Springs Army JROTC, NMSVH Resident Council president Ron Fleming and third graders from Truth or Consequences Elementary led the Pledge of Allegiance and Salute to the New Mexico State Flag.
Montgomery joined Lynn Gallagher, deputy secretary of the New Mexico Department of Health, in announcing the $25 million Alzheimer’s disease care unit to be constructed at the Veterans Home with a groundbreaking date to be announced in the coming year.
Guest speakers also included Air Force Maj. Anthony Vieira of Holloman Air Force Base and Alan Martinez, deputy secretary for Veterans Services.
Gabriel Vasquez and Marco Grajeda were on hand representing Senators Martin Heinrich and Tom Udall, respectively.
Following the ceremony, the center’s dietary services staff served lunch with donations benefiting the Resident Fund.
