On Saturday, Dec. 13, the City of Elephant Butte celebrated its 20th year of lights of luminarias and floating lights parade at Elephant Butte Lake State Park and Marina del Sur. This year’s luminaria walk was sponsored by the City of Elephant Butte and the Elephant Butte Chamber of Commerce, with donations benefiting the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The floating lights parade was sponsored by Michele’s Salon & Spa, Morgan Marine Inc., Sierra del Rio Golf Course, and Whitehead Chevrolet.
The lighting contest awarded results were to Steel Soldiers of Southwest for first place, New Mexico Water Service Co., for second place, and Sierra Electric Co-op for third. The Rotary Club was able to collect a generous $1,680 in visitor donations for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
After the cost of state park entrance, residents and visitors from Las Cruces, Albuquerque, El Paso, and other areas were able to enjoy free hayrides, hot cider, chili and posole, as well as 25 hosted campfires, caroling, and a special visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
