The Hot Springs Lady Tigers won the consolation bracket of the Lordsburg Basketball Tournament on Dec. 4-6, bringing home some nice tourney hardware and also jumping out to an uplifting 3-1 start on the young season.
CLIFF – 28

After beating Cliff by three points in the season opener on Nov. 22, Hot Springs once again faced off against the Cowgirls, who came out against the Tigers with extra incentive in the first round of the Lordsburg tourney.
“It was a very physical and rough game that went down to the wire,” HSHS Coach Terry Taylor said.
Senior forward Limor Johnson paced the Lady Tigers with 11 points.
HSHS – 58
MVC – 19
Hot Springs quickly put the first-round setback in their rearview mirror the next day, turning around and dominating Mesilla Valley Christian. Sophomore post Callie Jo Swaim led HSHS with 14 points, followed by Johnson (9) and senior pointguard Bailey Henderson (8).
HSHS – 43
COBRE – 37
The Tigers served early notice that they’ll be a force to reckoned with when District 3-4A play starts in late January.
In the consolation bracket title game, Hot Springs defeated their district rival Lady Indians 43-37.
Johnson scored 11 points, and two of her fellow teammates neared double-figures – junior guard/forward Brianna Covarrubias (9) and junior guard/forward Melene Berkstresser (8).
The Lady Tigers were scheduled to host Mesilla Valley Christian on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Tiger Gym.
Next week (Tuesday, Dec. 16), HSHS plays host to Albuquerque’s East Mountain.
