Last week, the Board of Directors of MainStreet Truth or Consequences met with Gillian Joyce of the University of New Mexico’s Bureau of Business & Economic Research (BBER) to begin a community economic assessment of the area. Ms. Joyce’s initial visit included a tour of the MainStreet district and discussion about the area’s assets and challenges.
Funded by New Mexico MainStreet, the BBER study will gather data on gross receipts, local and regional trade area analysis, employment patterns and compensation, and demographics. This information will then provide data to guide economic development.
The process will go throughout the winter and spring as representatives from UNM-BBER meet with MainStreet board members and the community. There will be a community forum in the spring and the report will be available in June.
