District 3-4A has turned out to be the toughest district in the state this year, sending three of the four top teams that made the state playoffs.
Silver Colts won the district with Hatch Valley and Cobre all making the quarterfinals along with Ruidoso, the lone representative from district 4-4A.
The Colts received a bye in the first round of the playoffs and then outgunned the Portales Rams in the semifinals with a 61-14 victory. The Colts then lost to Ruidoso 14-7.
Cobre’s Indians defeated the HSHS Tigers 49-6 in the first round of the playoffs, then defeated the Bloomfield Bobcats 34-23 in Regional. In the quarterfinal match-up, the Indians defeated the Hatch Bears 21-14 to move into the championship bracket with the Ruidoso Warriors set to be played the weekend of Dec. 5-6.
The Hatch Bears defeated NMMI in the first round by a score of 27-10, and then defeated the number one seed, Robertson, 20-16 in the quarterfinals. They lost to Cobre in the semifinals.
In their trip through the playoffs, the Ruidoso Warriors received a bye in the first round and then defeated St. Mike’s 54-28 in the quarterfinals. They defeated Silver in the semifinals 14-7.
