More than 240 cadets from the Colorado and New Mexico school systems attended the annual Junior Cadet Leadership camp. The camp was held June 7 – 12 in Kiowa, Colorado.
Cadets who attended JCLC were: Katie Apodaca, McKensie Spears, Tait Apodaca, Jesse Brantley, Marcus Mayfield and Ivon Torrez.
The cadets range between 14 and 18 years of age.
The cadets went to re-enforcement rapelling training on Monday and ate MRE (Meals Ready to Eat) for lunch.
The high school cadets went canoeing on the lake, learned First – aid skills, set traps of the outdoor living course, ran through the Land Navigation Course, competed on the obstacle courses and Leadership Reaction Course on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, cadets rapelled from the cliffs, and practiced their applied skills techniques.
On Thursday, the cadets put it all together when they competed in the applied skills testing and the cadet challenge course. Medals were awarded on Friday and Hot Springs High School walked away with 14 medals.
